Policies and Procedures

Classroom Behavior Expectations:

Students are expected to be respectful to each other and responsible for their education.  I expect students to ask questions, to be active in their learning and appreciate all viewpoints.  I want my students to know I care about them and respect their ideas.  In order to create this loving and learning environment, we monitor our behavior using a colored code system.  The colors represent how well we are following the rules.  The color system is:

Green - All is well, ready to learn

Yellow - A rule has been broken and the child has been reminded what rule they are breaking.  It is the hope they will change their ways.  When I see they are back on track, they will move back to green.

Orange -  The behavior that made them move to yellow is still continuing, even after be reminded.  At this point I have an intervention mini-meeting with the child and give them a plan of action to change their behavior.  If I observe the behavior is changing they will begin moving back up the chart and hopefully return to green.

Red - Red is achieved if a child currently on yellow  continues to break a rule and does not follow the action plan laid out during the orange stage.  At this point the child will meet with me again and parents will be called.  If needed, the child  may be moved to an area of least distraction to himself and the other students.

If a child ends the day with a green star, they get a punch on their behavior chart.  These punches accumulate and privileges are earned.  Once a punch and/or privilege is earned, it will never be taken away.  Each day we start new with, with everyone on green.

Homework:

Homework in my class should just be finish work.  It should not take long to finish at home and is expected to be completed by the next morning.   If an assignment is missing, the student loses their punch for the day, but can turn in their homework the following day will no points taken off.  If the assignment is not finished the second day, the student loses the punch and points are taken off the final grade of the assignment.  If after two days, the assignment is still out, the student will have to stay in for recess and complete the assignment and additional points are taken off as well as the loss of a punch.  Severe missing assignments may require a parent/teacher meeting.

Absences:

In the event of an absence, students will receive a list of assignements covered during their absence.  Students will have as many days as they were absent to finish the work.  If assignments are not done it will be counted as late and points taken off.

Students who are absent will need to provide a written excuse upon returning to school.   For your convenience you can also e-mail your note to either myself or the office.  If this does not occur then the absence will be unexcused.  This is school policy, not my own rule.  So, please communicate with us when your child is absent.
